| Christine Parker - Artist Biography |
|---|
I love to paint. This I discovered recently, though I have probably known it all of my life.
For years I took occasional art classes, and though I enjoyed them, I never pursued art seriously. I guess life just got in the way. Then, two or three years ago, I joined evening art classes. The timing was perfect and so began one of the most fulfilling stages of my life journey.
All of my work is raised. I ‘sculpt’ with gesso. It’s a bit like icing a cake really. I like to use colour straight from the tube rather than mixing on a palette. I enjoy the purity of the colours straight from the tube and I mix on the canvass, layering the paint up and rubbing back to reveal the underlying tones.
I’m not distracted with perfection and search more for a feeling with a piece rather than a particular vision. I have to be able to look at a completed painting and see beauty in it. But not perfection.
I’m constantly inspired by nature and life.
I have a very supportive husband, Trevor and four kids. We live in an old country house. The sky is huge and we can see the hills.
I call my art ‘Beautiful Distortion,’ because if I find something beautiful I create a distortion of the image. It’s distortion because it isn’t a perfect copy. At best it might be beautiful in it’s re-creation. When I achieve this I feel I have honoured my subject.
I hope you might see a little bit of beauty in something I’ve painted.
