| Jane Giles - Artist Biography |
|---|
Jane Giles (nee Jepsen)
My interest in art began at school, the highlight being taking Art in the sixth form at Horowhenua College, Levin, and working on a fine arts portfolio towards a graphic design course in Wellington, to which I was accepted.
However, I went to Kindergarten Teachers College instead (they paid you to train back then!) and after that I went travelling for a few years. Then domesticity set in and raising the family took priority.
I have a very supportive husband, Chris, and one son still going through College at present, with a son and daughter overseas.(Doing what we did!)
I have attended occasional night classes and attempted a correspondence art course over the years. The latter didn’t work for me!
It has only been in the last couple of years that I have had more time and become involved with helping to run Carterton Art Group, a trustee of WAI ART Inc., and focusing on painting and exhibiting.
I have attended art classes with Jan Eagle and Jim Campbell and I have had work displayed in Aratoi, Masterton Art Club, and Carterton Art Group. I’ve been working in acrylic mostly and trying all sorts of subjects, except portraiture (which was my first love) and hope to move on to that soon.
I’m interested in trying other media such as pastels, and one day I hope to master watercolour.
I feel that I am at the beginning of a journey that I’m sure will continue for the rest of my life.
