Viv Walker - Artist Biography
Viv Walker

Illustrator/Designer/Painter/Tutor...

Viv trained in graphic design before a paintbrush inevitably found its way into her hesitant hand. However it all turned out okay with people she doesn’t have any family connection to, buying her work!

Currently juggling design work, teaching art to enthusiastic adults, writing a little - when there is time and painting of course. Viv illustrated her first Children’s Picture Book through Random House in June 2008 - a dream come true as she had secretly harboured pure thoughts of being an children’s Picture book illustrator on top of everything else.

She continues to explore diverse areas of art expressing her drawings, collages and painting with an inherent graphic treatment and representational style. Natural scenes, whimsy, the figure and word-play feature prominently in her work. She generally describes herself as an illustrator who paints.

Viv has been teaching a popular course in portraiture and drawing for the last year. She has also been running weekend workshops in an Introduction to Writing and Illustrating for children (picture book) alongside tutor Ali Foster (author - Elwyn’s Dream). More workshops are planned for 2010.

To contact Viv about courses, paintings and portrait commissions - see contact details.

Viv lives with a husband, two daughters and a cat on 2 ½ acres of bird saturated and somewhat neglected garden in Carterton.
